Is Your Skin Purging? Why Your Skin is Breaking Out
Let'd be real here. Spots can seriously dent your confidence.
But, how do you know if your skin is purging or it's a reactive breakout?
In this article, we dive into the topic of skin purging and the reason why your skin is breaking out.
If you struggle with occasional blemishes, or your skin has started to erupt badly, keep reading for our top clear skin tips.
What is skin purging?
Skin purging is when your skin begins to breakout after using a new skincare product.
If you're trying a new product for the first time and start to notice blemishes occurring, it may be due to purging.
What if my skin is having a bad reaction?
Your skin may develop blemishes due to a bad reaction to trying a new product. The reasoning behind this may be irritation, clogged pores or an allergy.
How does purging occur?
Spots occur when a pore becomes clogged with dead skin cells. When a dead skin cell doesn't detach and reach the surface of the skin correctly, it forms a microcomedone.
These can surface as a whitehead, blackhead or spot.
If you're using a product which accelerates the rate at which skin cell turnover occurs, then microcomedones reach the surface quicker, meaning you'll see blemishes soon after you begin using the product.
However, skin purging only occurs shortly after using the product, and if you continue to use the product you should start to see the blemishes clear up, without returning.
What about other breakouts?
If a new product is causing spots due to clogging your pores or increasing irritation, then you need to discontinue use.
A reactive breakout will normally be a larger cluster of spots due to extra irritation or clogging.
Unless a product is encouraging skin cell turnover, such as a BHA or AHA, then no skincare product should be irritating your skin.
If your skin tends to react to new products, try using skincare containing no fragrance, alcohol, or added ingredients.
How to determine if your skin is purging or reacting to a new product?
It can be challenging to tell if your breakout is due to purging or a reaction.
First, you need to look at the ingredients list of your new product.
Certain active ingredients can increase skin cell turnover, causing purging.
These include hydroxy acids, benzoyl peroxide, exfoliants, retinoids, chemical peels, microdermabrasion.
Other types of products are unlikely to cause skin purging. If you're using a product without active ingredients, then discontinue use as it's likely to keep giving you blemishes.
How long will purging last?
Skin purging should only last for around 4 weeks (the time it roughly takes for your skin to renew). If your skin isn't clearing up after 8 weeks, then you'll need to ditch your product.
How can I clear my skin?
Skin purging should clear up on its own. However, if you find that your skin does tend to purge with new products, it's best to begin using it in a small amount and build up use gradually.
Using a gently cleanser and moisturiser will help to calm your skin. Remember to also protect your skin from the sun to avoid damage.

✅ "THIS STUFF CHANGED MY LIFE" -
I'm a 30-year-old female who has been struggling with horrific acne since I was 9 years old. I have tried every acne product I could get my hands on over the years: prescription, over-the-counter, tv commercial, you name it. My face was so bad that I refused to leave the house without concealer on. I had a tube in my bathroom, in my purse, in my car, at work, I literally could not go anywhere without it and even with it on, the acne was still obvious. More than once I called into work sick because I was breaking out so bad I couldn't make myself go out and face people. Someone who has never battled acne would never understand the impact it can have on your self-esteem and daily life. It's a nightmare and at 30 years old I had pretty much just accepted that it was never going to go away. Enter this incredible kit. I happened upon it by accident one day while browsing Facebook and decided to give it a try based on the reviews. And oh my, am I glad I did.
After about 3 months of using this stuff 2-3 times a week, my face is 90% clear and I'm enjoying wearing ZERO makeup EVER for the first time in my adult life! I've thrown away all of my concealers and couldn't be happier about it.
For the first week or so, I noticed that my face would kind of tingle and itch a bit after application, and I got hives a few times a day (which is not out of the ordinary for me so I wasn't at all alarmed, I have super sensitive skin), but I gave it a week and all of that completely subsided.
This stuff was truly a God-send for me. I'm not being paid or reimbursed for this review in any way. I seriously never do reviews, but if I can help convince just one other person to try this stuff and them have the same results I've had, this is so worth it.
