Do you suffer from Eczema, Redness, or irritation?
Does your skin tend to react to new products you introduce?
Having sensitive skin can be a minefield in terms of finding products to use.
But, knowing how to effectively care for your skin can make a world of difference - a balanced complexion, less irritation and soothed, hydrated skin may be just around the corner!
Thankfully, we have a few handy tips for you to get your sensitive complexion under control.
Read the labels
It's important to check the labels of your skincare products, especially if there's an ingredient which you know you react to. Many artificial fillers, such as fragrance, can cause irritation and potentially make your eczema or dry skin worse.
Instead, look for more natural products which don't contains filler ingredients. Products labelled as natural may not always contain 100% natural ingredients so always be aware of ingredients in these products too.
Exfoliation eliminates dead skin cells
Exfoliation is essential for removing dead skin cells, making your complexion look brighter and helping to remove dry, scaly skin.
Don't be afraid to use liquid exfoliation ingredients. Lactic acid, in particular, is ideal for sensitive skin. Using this ingredient once per week will help your skin to glow.
You are what you eat
Your dietplays a big role in the appearance of your skin. Hot, spicy foods, alcohol and coffee can cause havoc if you have redness or irritation. Try to avoid these foods and include lots of greens to nourish your skin.
Put moisture back in
Hydration is required for any skin type. Ideally, use a rich moisturiser morning and evening to keep your skin hydrated, as well as to soothe and replenish your complexion.
You can also use a hyaluronic acid serum like Live Skincare Hydrate to target the deeper layers of the skin. Hyaluronic acid can hold 1000 times its weight in water, helping to lock moisture into the skin.
Avoid hot water
Avoid washing your face in hot water as this can irritate your complexion. Instead, use lukewarm water to cleanse your skin.
Be gentle when washing. Scrubbing or tugging at your skin can do more harm than good. If you need to cool your skin, place a damp cloth in your fridge and use this to soothe your face.
Protect your face
Always use an SPF to protect your skin from the sun. Not only can sun damage increase your risk of skin cancer, but it also promotes premature ageing.
SPF is needed even if the weather seems overcast. On very hot days, avoid being exposed to direct sunlight for too long and wear a sun hat and sunglasses to protect your face.
